I actually have two questions.
The first is how long is everyone planning on making their presentations?
Secondly, I will be
asking the teachers in grades 5K – 3rd grade to form a literacy
committee to work on strategies for comprehension. I also want them to track their student’s
comprehension growth and involve the parents by offering strategies they can
use at home. When my presentation is over I am not sure what type of feedback
to use. Would it be better to hold a
discussion on the likely hood of them actually do this or would a survey asking
them to write their opinions work better.
What would you rather do if you were a member of the audience? I really
want to know if they would actually be willing to take a part in a project like
this.

I am currently seeking statistics on reading comprehension and
today I found a report that gives the nations report card. This report was generated in 2011 and shows
the growth, which is slow, in areas of reading between 4th grade and
8th grade. I am very excited
to finish reading this report because seems to be filling in the gaps I feel my
presentation has for stats.

As of now I am planning my presentation to be no longer than 45 minutes. Of course, if more discussion is needed, I will extended the presentation, but not for too much longer. As for feedback, I am going to create a short survey for the audience to fill out after the presentation. I thought about creating a PowerPoint presentation, but for this course I am just presenting my plan to one target audience (directors/administration). I am going to create a hand out instead. ReplyDeleteI am planning for roughly 10-20 minutes of presentation. As I am presenting to administration staff, I need to be direct while trying not to eat much of their time. It will really be a direct presentation with no beating around the bush. My goal is this because our school is lacking this, we have seen benefit so far from this and if we do this it will increase positive learning experiences by this. There will be extra time after the presentation for discussing out points where administrators may have question but I hope to eliminate any confusion in the presentation.

This question is tricky. While some people do not survey seriously and just fill in bubbles for whatever, a direct discussion might have people feeling awkward about discussing their true feelings with you if they happen to disagree or feel their constructive criticism will be viewed as negative and hurtful. You could set up the survey on surveymonkey.com or something similar for anonymous feedback so that people could feel more open about how they feel things are progressing. Good luck to you on this!
When I think about doing my presentation, I think that it will be about 20 minutes. I have never done this and so am uncertain about it. I want to make sure I give enough information for my audience to understand clearly. I also do not want to overdo my information.
ReplyDeleteNot being clear on how to do a power point I am thankful for the examples you have shared. Also for my feedback I want to present to my audience which will be a cohort of Early Childhood professionals an opportunity to write to the Community ChildCare Connection who are in charge of the foundation grant to include two year olds in the Brigrance screening assessments in order to bring Early Intervention to all children who need the service to help us meet the needs of children as soon as possible. I am planning on my presentation to only be about 15 minutes but if it needs to go more than I will extend it. I think my plan is a pretty simple reading plan so it should be enough.

My presentation is going to be about 20- 30 minutes. As far as your feedback I would think a survey would go a long way, and be they best option. Maybe you could still offer a group round table discussion as an option on the survey. If enough people are interested then you can set that up.
